We're very proud to announce we were nominated and winners of the Weston Group New Business Partner of the Year award. As if this isn’t good enough, we also got to attend a very lavish award ceremony where Bob Wilson (ex Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper) presented us with our new trophy cabinet addition.
Crest Nicholson adopt Google Mapping
As they say it's all about location, location, location when you're looking for a new home, so it made perfect sense for Crest Nicholson to integrate Google maps into their corporate website. Using the Google API we've enabled search results to be shown on a auto-zoomed map, and added bespoke placeholders, development information and imagery to make the new functionality sit comfortably within the existing website.
This new feature also makes use of the Google directions functionality and a CMS was developed for exact placeholder positioning (some post codes just aren't quite right) and areas that are covered by a developement can be masked using a polygon generator.
Hermes CEO champions Carbon360
Hermes Fund Managers Ltd has extended a 360 degree appraisal system to all its staff and adopted Carbon360 software to support this move. Having previouslHermes Fund Managers Ltd has extended a 360 degree appraisal system to all its staff and adopted Carbon360 software to support this move. Having previously used an off-the-shelf product, Hermes has invested in the Web based product which offers the flexibility required to support all areas of the organisation.
An ambitious roll out programme to 350 people, which represents 25% of the business, has been achieved in just three months. One of the first people to adopt the appraisal system is Rupert Clarke, CEO for Hermes who has championed the role of 360 appraisals. By participating in the process, Clarke has demonstrated that everyone in the company should play their part and that all members of the organisation benefit from constructive peer/report reviews.
Commenting on the 360 degree initiative, Nicky Maiden, Head of Organisational Development for Hermes Fund Managers said:
“Hermes is a multi boutique business supporting clients across a range of asset classes - each of which has very different needs which, in turn, need different skills sets from the people working in our business units.
“As a Web browser based product that we can manage in-house, we have been given the flexibility we need with Carbon360 as each business unit has been able to write its own behaviour statements and competencies. This consultative approach ensures that people are fully engaged in the process and competencies are accurately tailored for each department.”
More than five suppliers’ products were assessed before the decision was taken by Hermes to invest in Carbon360. Key reasons for selection were the HR competency framework and consultancy opportunities that would empower and engage Hermes’ staff. The ability to measure people against relevant metrics is also viewed as instrumental in the development of both individuals and the organisation.
Hermes invests funds on behalf of over 200 clients including pension funds, insurance companies, government entities, financial institutions and charities / endowments. The company’s owner, and largest Client, is the BT Pension Scheme.
Edexcel adopts in-house solution to automate 360 appraisals
Edexcel, provider of a range of internationally recognised qualifications to more than two million learners, has adopted an in-house solution to automate its 360 degree appraisal process. Having successfully trialled software to automate its review processes, Edexcel looked for a solution that could be managed internally and has invested in the Carbon360 product from Element78.
Ophelia Dodds, Edexcel Corporate Project Delivery Manager headed the software selection process and reviewed three systems. Commenting on the investment in Carbon360, she said:
“Financial considerations and an ability to host the system were key factors in the decision making process. Investment in the Carbon360 product not only gives us complete in-house control but it was more cost-effective to install the whole system than run an external solution.”
Other key reasons for adopting Carbon360 software included the ability to run on-line questionnaires in-house, flexibility, rapid deployment and supplier support. Additionally, the software’s reporting capabilities, particularly its ability to draw out data, impressed Edexcel.

Cubic Transportation supports competency framework
Having viewed new version Carbon360 software at June 2007’s HR Software Show, Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc. has invested in the 360 degree appraisal package developed by Element 78 Solutions Ltd.
The global turnkey solution provider of automated fare collection systems for public transport applications has completed development of a competency framework and identified Carbon360 software as the ideal mechanism for delivery.
Liz Newman, Head of Human Resources, commented on how Carbon360 will support the move from a paper based performance management process to an automated solution: “Carbon360 has been identified as the ideal mechanism for delivering our newly developed competency framework which will enable us to migrate a paper based system to a desk-top based process. Straightforward translation of our framework data will ensure that we can seamlessly move to the software solution and cascade the information down the organisation without major investment in roll-out time or money.”
Other reasons cited by Cubic Transportation that reinforced the decision to move to the Carbon360 software appraisal solution were its ‘stand-alone’ system benefits that give total flexibility along with an intuitive, uncomplicated design and lack of IT jargon.
Carbon360 Characters Capture 360 Degree Dynamics
'Carbon360 Characters', each with their own distinctive features have been designed to support Element78’s new generation 360 degree appraisal software.
Representing the wide spectrum of people within an organisation impacted by the 360 degree appraisal, the iconographic characters also make a strong statement that Carbon360 is intuitive and easy-to-use. Element78 report that they believe this to be the first development by an appraisal software development company to represent the complex dynamics of the 360 degree appraisal with clear iconographic character branding. The company confirms that the fresh simplicity of the Carbon360 Characters' design reinforces the straightforward nature, and ease of implementation of the software, produced by Element 78 Solutions Ltd. The new branding will be represented throughout Element78's display materials including graphics, literature and other materials available to visitors to the exhibition. An on-stand rolling visual display featuring the Carbon360 Characters will guide visitors through the applications and advantages of the company's 360 degree appraisal software.

Carbon360 headed for Telereal
Telereal is a leading property solutions company that has extensive expertise in optimising property portfolios. For example, in 2001 they completed the UK's largest corporate property outsourcing deal. Telereal acquired the majority of the BT UK property estate comprising 6,700 properties totalling 5.5 million m² and took on a team of 350 property specialists. This enabled BT to unlock £2.38 billion in capital.
As Telereal’s business is growing fast, HR has been searching for ways to better appraise the staff in order to maximise efficiency and retention. They settled on carrying out 360 degree style appraisals but knew that a paper based model would be highly complex and a consultant led service far too expensive.
This led them to contact Element 78 and purchase the Carbon360 product which fulfils their needs now and into the future. The ‘buy once, use many’ sales model fitted their requirements and ensures that long-term appraisal costs are kept to a minimum.

There was also positive feedback to the fact that Carbon360 was working to de-mystify 360 appraisal technology by offering a straightforward solution that provides reports that are easy to track and analyse.
